Bush’s Dilemma: The Cost of the War on Terrorism
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper arguing that George W. Bush has no clear idea of how long the war against terrorism will last, how much it will cost or when he will need to raise taxes to pay for the effort. The bottom line is that there are too many unknowns for the Bush administration to be able to provide any firm picture of total cost of the war effort or when it will be “safe” for the economy for the administration to raise federal taxes. Without knowing how long the war effort will last, there is no way to firmly predict what the final cost will be. Without knowing that bottom-line figure, neither can tax increases be predicted. All hinges on how effective allied forces are able to be in inhibiting terrorists’ ability to act at will. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Campaign Finance Reform
[ send me this paper ]
(5pp). In 1974 Congress passed a set of laws that
changed the amount of money which could be donated
to an individual campaign. Contributions to
candidates are now limited to $1,000, per
contributor, that's called" hard money." But of
course many people and organizations, including
special interest groups such as defense contractors,
the gambling industry, organized labor have more
money that they would like to spend on politics
than they can get to candidates in $1,000
increments. So they give much larger amounts to
advocacy groups, political action committees and
the political party. That is called "soft money."
Not many changes have happened in the last 25
years of discussion. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
