A Proposal for Evaluating the Impacts of a Vegetarian Diet
[ send me this paper ]
A 20 page proposal to evaluate the effects of a vegetarian diet on health and quality of life. A specific emphasis is placed on evaluating the effects of the vegetarian diet in terms of disease prevention. Provides a review of the literature and presents the hypothesis that vegetarians are likely to enjoy an improved quality of life, a lesser propensity for obesity and such diseases as cardiovascular disorders, osteoporosis, cancer, and diabetes. Suggests experimental methodology for testing this hypothesis and supports the contention that this performance can be judged through a comparison of cholesterol levels, body mass index (BMI), and medical history in regard to diseases, and blood sugars of vegetarians verses non vegetarians. Bibliography lists 22 sources.

A Proposed Study to Evaluate the Impact of Vegetarianism on Blood Sugar Level
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page proposal to evaluate the effect of a vegetarian lifestyle on blood sugar levels. The study is designed to assess individual's current approach to blood sugar levels, approaches that may or may not include medications and that may or may not include a vegetarian diet. Subjects are selected randomly and provided surveys through e-mail. Their reports as to their lifestyle choices are correlated with blood sugar analyses. Bibliography lists 14 sources.

A Qualitative Look at Cognitive Behavioral Therapy versus Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 9 page paper using a qualitative approach to study cognitive behavioral therapy versus family therapy for treatment of anorexia nervosa. A qualitative study of cognitive behavioral therapy versus family therapy for treatment of anorexia nervosa includes various non-experimental components. Firstly, a statement of the problem introduces the prevalence of anorexia and the need for successful treatment in this disease which claims over 10 percent of those diagnosed. The statement of the problem is then followed by the purpose for the study, if any assumptions can be made and a qualitative review of the current methods of therapies. Several therapies have been used in the treatment of patients with anorexia which includes cognitive behavioral therapy, individual and group therapy, family therapy and pharmacotherapy as well as nutritional counseling. In this study, an assessment of the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and that of family therapy are examined through a comparative view of current literature.
Bibliography lists 23 sources.

A Study Designed to Assess the Effectiveness of Insulin Pump Therapy in Treating Type I Diabetes Mellitus
[ send me this paper ]
A 25 page proposal to evaluate the efficacy of insulin pump therapy verses that of magnetic release polymer therapy for Type I Diabetes Mellitus. Provides a review of the literature and presents the hypothesis that insulin pump therapy will perform either equivalently to or superior to magnetic polymer delivery systems for insulin delivery. Suggests experimental methodology for testing this hypothesis and supports the contention that this performance can be judged through a comparison of HbA1c values, body mass index (BMI), and hypoglycemic episodes before and after initiation of therapy with data provided in the literature. Includes an extensive discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each type of treatment methodology. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

Acetaminophen Overdose
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper discussing the possible toxic effects of this widely used over the counter analgesic. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) has been available over the counter for more than 40 years. It may be the most common analgesic for self-medication, and it frequently is used in hospitals as well. Overdose can lead to nearly-immediate liver toxicity, however, and can damage kidneys in the process. The paper discusses the mechanisms of toxicity, antidotes, drug interactions and points for nurses’ education of patients. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
